Are Bobber Hex Antenna’s really Beams?
Yes: Bobber’s are directional beams. The reports I receive from patrons are very happy with the characteristics of the Bobber.
What is the Weight and Radius?
Bobber (20 17 10 Triband) is around 25.5 lbs, 9 foot 4 inches radius
Baby Bobber 6/10 dual band is 55 inches radius, Weight is about 6.1 lbs
Baby Bobber 6 meter is under 36 inches radius, Weight is under 5.4 lbs

Is it possible to add bands to a Bobber Hex?
Yes you can add bands at any time to the Bobber Hex. The cost is just about $60.00 to add a band. (Band which can be installed are 20,17,15,12,10,6 meter)
The Baby Bobber 10 meter allows for 6 meter to be added.

Do Bobbers  handle wind?
They do very well in wind, the shape of the hex is not biased by the wind direction. Elements and Dacron Cords, support from the perimeter of the frame, with the perimeter support around the entire “frame” the spreaders do not “Whip”. The geometry of the Bobber produces very little torque applied to the rotor

Support Ropes for ice and Wind are they a extra cost ?
Bobber Hex desires you to have the best products. All Bobber Hex antenna's have a full set of support cords installed on them. They are standard now. No Charge. If you purchases a Bobber Hex the support cords will be on the antenna. The cords can be seen in the vedio "The Bobber Frame " (Assemble Part 2)on the resource page. Other may charge for these we make them standard.

What is the most common antenna?
That’s a hard question to answer:  Common purchases are  20, 17 Dual-Band and 20, 17, 10 Tri-band.s on original purchases, but is common place to have a Bobber upgraded by one or more bands.

Is Tuning required?
All Elements/Band are pre-tuned. The band elements do not require trimming or cutting to length. The antenna is tuned to the voice portion of band.

How Many Feeds
Bobber Antenna’s are designed to use one feed line. The principle is very simple.  The multi-band antenna utilizes one of the most basic laws of electricity. Electricity follows through the path of least resistance. The transmission will "Find" the correct set of elements to radiate on based off the path of least resistance. Thus the term resonance.

Bobber Antenna’s are direct fed antennas. They DO NOT USE balun’s, traps, switching networks, or ladder lines. Bobbers are fed with 50 ohm coax with a SO-239 connector (female) to attach the feed line.

Partial Assemble:
We offer partial assemble at an additional charge. All the elements and feed lines are attached. You assemble it by mounting spreaders in hub and install the elements wire.

Any specialized Tools needed?
The tools used for assembly are common: 7/16 and 3/16 wrench, Philips screw drive are used to assemble any of the Bobber Antennas, for the Baby Bobber 3/16 wrench and Philips screw driver.

What materials are used in the spreaders?
The spreader are made of fiberglass. 1 inch, 3/4 inch, and 1/2 inch. We are proud to use the spreaders provided my Max Gain Systems.

What materials are used in the elements?
The Driven and Reflector is made of 16 gage 70% copper / 30% stainless copper clad. We prefer copper clad to help eliminate stretching of the Driven and Reflector Elements.

What is metal in the antenna?
The only metal in the antenna is the bolts, nuts, washers. All hardware include with the antenna is Stainless Steel. And Copper Clad for the Driven and Reflector elements. No hose clamp, No U-bolt, No S-hooks.

Most hexagonal antennas use a metal composite to produce the base spreader plate, riser tower mount, rotor base and element stand offs. We choose to use UHMW (Ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene). The use of UHMW eliminates most of the metal in the air.   Our goal is simple, remove metal from around the Elements. The net benefits of UHMW is almost no metal visible by the reflector and driven element.

Why Upper and lower spreader plates, not just one plate and U clamps?
1. The Two plates “sandwich” the spreaders. almost 360 degrees securing the spreaders. The two plates help to eliminate crush points for the spreaders by distributing the holding force over a large area.
2. No unwanted "twist" of spreaders.
3, No need to "Pin: the Spreaders. ( no holes drilled in spreaders )
4, No needs to add protective anti crush covers on spreaders
5. No crush points or "U Bolts".
6. The Spreader plates are CNC cut for the center mast. The center riser mast will not have “wobble” or “sway”. This is important to keep the element in correct alignment.

Is (Plastic) UHMW “strong” enough for the spreader plates?
Yes the stats for performance/strength are very good
